Our Practices

What does it really mean when we use terms like regenerative, holistic, and grass-fed? Here you’ll find the core practices that make our farm DIFFERENT. If you’d like to go deeper, we’d love to show you in person — farm visits and conversations are always welcome.

Rotation

We keep our livestock moving. Throughout the growing season (spring-fall), our animals are moved onto fresh pasture one to three times per day. Once a section is fully grazed, it is rested for many weeks before animals return, allowing plants to fully regrow, deepen their roots, and build soil health.

Pasture Raised

Our livestock thrive on a natural diet found in our diverse perennial pastures. One hundred percent of their diet comes from the many grasses, forbs, and legumes that cover our pastures. They are never fed grain or feed additives.

Chemical Free Farming

We prioritize the health of our community, livestock and land, by refusing to utilize chemical inputs. No fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, or any other chemicals are applied to our pastures (yes, that means no glyphosate!). Instead of chemical interventions, we rely on natural solutions—such as installing houses for tree swallows, which help control parasites naturally.

Chemical Free Cattle

Our cattle are raised without chemicals of any kind — no vaccinations, hormones, antibiotics, or pharmaceutical inputs. Instead, we prioritize herd health through rotational grazing of diverse nutrient-dense forages and the careful selection of animals with strong natural immunity

Multi-Species Integration

Creation is not a monoculture – and neither is Prewitt Pastures. Our pasture‑raised chickens follow our cattle on shared paddocks, eating fly larvae and other insects before they hatch into biting flies.
